A pedestrian was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries on June 26th, 2026, at around 9:08 p.m. after being struck by a 2013 Toyota Highlander on Flamingo Road and New Forest Drive.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department reported that the pedestrian attempted to cross the road outside of a marked crosswalk before the Toyota Highlander, traveling westbound on Flamingo Road, struck the pedestrian, throwing them into the road. The driver of the Toyota stayed at the scene of the incident, where police determined that no signs of impairment were present.
Opinion on This Incident from a Car Accident Attorney
Pedestrian accidents almost always result in severe injuries, and unfortunately, this one followed that pattern. Due to the life-threatening injuries sustained by the pedestrian, this will undoubtedly be an expensive case with the amount of medical expenses, lost wages, and other damages incurred by the pedestrian.
In terms of liability, I don't think it's as clear-cut as some may think. While the pedestrian was technically crossing outside a designated crosswalk, NRS 484B.280 requires all drivers to stay alert and attempt to avoid collisions with pedestrians. With that, I can see this case falling under comparative negligence, with both parties potentially sharing some degree of fault.
