On October 15, 2026, just before noon, a wrong-way driver on West Sahara Avenue near Tenaya Way in west Las Vegas was involved in a collision. The driver, Corazon Blackwell, was driving a 2022 blue Honda CR-V, which crashed into a BMW in the center westbound lane. According to reports, the Honda was traveling (wrong-way) at 93 mph at the time of impact, double the posted speed limit.
The collision was described as violent, with the Honda spinning 360 degrees and sliding 63 feet. A witness reported swerving to avoid the oncoming vehicle, describing the driver as "crazed" and going "as fast as the car can go." Another witness heard an explosion-like sound during the collision.
The BMW driver sustained lacerations to the liver and spleen, as well as multiple other injuries, and was taken to UMC Trauma Center. Corazon Blackwell was mechanically extracted from the vehicle, where she was in critical condition, and was taken to UMC Trauma Center as well.
The Honda's left front wheel detached during the collision and struck a 2015 Hyundai Elantra's windshield, causing damage but leaving the Hyundai driver uninjured.
Blackwell has already been charged with felony reckless driving resulting in substantial bodily harm. She was booked in absentia at the Clark County Detention Center, meaning she was formally registered and charged without being physically present.
As of now, the crash remains under investigation, and further details are expected to be released as the investigation progresses.
Another Wrong-Way Crash in Las Vegas: Attorney's Thoughts
Only six days before this wrong-way crash, Las Vegas had a wrong-way crash on Interstate 15 that claimed the lives of two drivers. Two wrong-way crashes this close together surprise me and could be a sign that our roads and highways are getting more dangerous.
From a legal viewpoint on this crash, the fact that the Honda driver was traveling 93 mph, wrong-way, and has already been criminally charged makes me say that any path for compensation for damages and injuries they sustained is closed.
However, for the BMW driver, I can see damages being sought for property damage and injuries, which were reportedly severe. Additionally, I can see the Hyundai driver filing a claim for the property damage caused to their vehicle by the detached Honda wheel.
To close off this thoughts section, I have to say that this was, in all, a violent crash, and the speeds and the explosion-like sounds the witness reported say it all.
