A wrong-way crash near Valley of Fire on I-15, just after 4 a.m. on Friday, October 23, resulted in the deaths of two drivers. The crash, involving a two-door coupe and a four-door sedan, occurred at mile marker 77. Police report that one of the drivers was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes, making the crash a wrong-way collision.
Both drivers, a man and a woman, were pronounced dead at the scene by responding emergency services. The area remains closed, with I-15 southbound at exit 93 (State Route 168) shut down. Southbound traffic has been diverted to State Route 168 (Glendale-Moapa Road) and then onto U.S. 93. The crash site is under investigation, and the I-15 closure is expected to remain due to the ongoing investigation.
Drivers should plan routes accordingly.
Third Wrong-Way Crash in Two Weeks: Attorney's Opinion
This is the third severe wrong-way crash and the second fatal wrong-way crash in only two weeks. I think the proximity of these crashes to each other should create a discussion around wrong-way driving prevention technology, especially on rural and narrow highways like the one where this crash occurred.
Going on to a personal injury legal viewpoint on this car crash, I can see a wrongful death claim being filed by the driver who was hit by the wrong-way driver. This wrongful death claim will seek damages for things such as funeral expenses, loss of support, loss of companionship, and other losses a death can bring.
This is a legal opinion based on the information provided so far, but it could change as more information comes out.
